He is Uhai. He wears the fertile black of the earth. His eyes are the clear blue of the heavens. His voice is the soft rumble of thunder. His soft steps bring the rain. He is renewal.
Uhai is swahili for life.
The rain stuff I think is mostly brought about by the thunderstorms we've been having lately.
The renewal thing is from rain washing stuff away, coupled with the idea that in heraldry a black lion can mean the willingness to forgive.
The black and blue thing comes from shamanistic color symbology. Earth + sky = the world.
I like making characters, even if I never do anything with them.
Maybe I'll draw him again with rain and clouds and stuff.
Uhai was colored with marker, color pencil and acrylics done on a little scrap of watercolor paper.
I'm not very good at drawing cats. Gotta practice more.
Wow. You can really see the description in the piece. I love the gentle aura around Uhai. Even the mane appears gentle. And that symmetry must have been damn hard to do. O.x

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
